Welcome to the Northumberland Stars Billeting Family Information
As we look forward to our next 2024- 2025 season, the team will welcome up to twenty-five players from across Canada, the United States and abroad to the town of Colborne. These players are between 16 and 20 years old. Their stay in our city will last from late August to mid-March, depending on the playoffs. When these young people join the Northumberland Stars hockey team, they don’t live alone, they need accommodation. This is where the billet family becomes very important as each player is placed in a house within the local community.
What is Billeting?
Billeting is when a local family welcomes a visiting player into their home. The family that offers to help provide a safe place for the visiting player is called a foster family. Why Billet? Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience for anyone who wants to open their homes to dedicated players. Many families who have stayed in the past usually look back at their experience with fond memories. In fact, many families stay in touch with the players they had hosted in the past as the same players go through college and professional ranks.
The Stars appreciate the support that our billet families provide to our players and demonstrate our appreciation in the following ways:
- season tickets for all home games, including the playoffs;
- Team welcome dinner;
- Monthly compensation is $ 650.00 per month;
- A wonderful experience with many great memories for those who will extend their families to include a dedicated young man while playing junior hockey.
